(ENG) Hosu’s practice stems from a desire to understand time as a means of confronting the fear of death and disappearance. Working primarily in sculpture and kinetic installation, he explores how certain object and its movement can evoke sensorial memories of one’s birth and childhood, potentially revealing insights into the origin of time. Central to his work is a series of autonomous machines that generate hypnotic motion of pendulums, aiming to access a psychological realm where those primal memories reside. While woodworking and pencil drawing form the dedicated foundation of his artistic practice, his work extends to pneumatics, hydraulics, sound, electronics, coding, and various material experimentation.

(KR) 이호수의 작업은 죽음과 소멸에 대한 두려움에 맞서기 위해 시간을 이해하려는 열망에서 출발한다. 조각과 키네틱 설치를 주 매체로 다루는 그는 특정한 사물과 그 움직임이 어떻게 개개인의 탄생과 어린 시절에 대한 감각적 기억을 불러일으키는지, 나아가 그것이 시간의 기원에 관한 통찰을 열어줄 수 있는지를 탐구한다. 그의 작품 세계에서 중심을 이루는 것은 진자의 최면적인 운동을 만들어내는 일련의 자율 기계들로, 이는 그러한 원초적 기억이 머무는 심리적 영역에 도달하는 것을 목표로 한다. 목공과 연필 드로잉은 그의 작업 세계를 지탱하는 기반을 이루며, 그 실천은 공압과 유압, 사운드, 전자, 코딩, 그리고 다양한 물성 실험으로 확장된다.
